A Debt Reduction Plan is the Key!

Spending time to formulate a debt reduction plan could really increase your chances of success.  Working out the right plan can be difficult.  Everyone seems to have advice on a plan that worked for them.  The problem with most debt reduction plans is that they don't take into account your own unique financial situation.  There is no point working on a plan that was successful for a family member or friend, because their financial situation is not the same as yours.  Develop a plan that fits your unique circumstances.  You might decide to use the Snowball method, which is the method of paying off the highest interest debts first.  You could choose to try Debt consolidation or Debt settlement options to try and get rid of your debts.  Regardless of the type of debt reduction plan that you choose; you will need to have a clear goal and a defined purpose to your plan in order to achieve success.

We don't plan to fail, we fail to plan.

   No More Debt
When you are working on your debt reduction plan, it is important not to incur anymore debt.  This means not charging anything new to your credit cards and not applying for new credit cards.  Remember, you are trying to eliminate your debt.  Applying for new credit card accounts will defeat this purpose.

Pay More than the Minimum

Never pay just the monthly minimum payment on your accounts.  If you pay more than the monthly minimum payment, you can and will pay off the debt faster.  If you can afford to, pay double the amount of your minimum payment.  You will see major progress towards reaching your ultimate goal.

Motivation

One problem with a debt reduction plan is that people lose motivation or they lose site of the ultimate goal which is to eliminate their debt.  Find ways to stay motivated.  You might try using a debt reduction spreadsheet that will show your progress or you can plan a nice reward for yourself once your all of your debts have been paid.  Just think about how much money you spend each month on credit card bills, then imagine the amount of  money that will be freed up after your debts are gone.
